What is an MP4 compared to an MP3?

A lot of us feel embarrassed to ask this question, especially with all the tech-savvy Millennials and and Gen-Zs out there.   We can assure you that there's no need to feel shy to ask because this is one of the most popular tech questions out there!

If you don't want too many details and just need the basics so you can respond to the technical jargon at work, here it is: mp3s are typically used  as files that store music or another type of audio recording.  On the other hand, mp4s are usually used to store files that include both, sound and video.

The mp4 format actually originated with Apple, so it's pretty likely that you will have no trouble viewing an mp4 file (often video with sound) on your iPhone.
