For many contractors, a project ends when the equipment leaves the site. For Tommy Lefebvre, it begins much earlier and often continues for years.

As the owner of Lux Group Corp., Tommy has built a company that serves commercial property managers, developers, municipalities, businesses, and homeowners throughout Alberta with services ranging from asphalt paving and concrete construction to landscape development, property maintenance, and snow and ice management. This year, those efforts have earned Lux Group Corp. its fifth consecutive Canadian Business Review Board recognition as Calgary's leader in landscape construction and property maintenance.

Tommy believes the company's continued growth has never been about expanding its range of services for the sake of growth. Instead, it has been about providing clients with a dependable partner capable of caring for a property throughout its entire lifecycle.

"I've always believed that lasting relationships are built on trust, honesty, and consistency. We never promise something we can't deliver, and we communicate openly from the beginning of every project until it's complete. Our clients know that when we give our word, we stand behind it. Many of those clients have become long-term partners, and that's something I'm extremely proud of. To me, success isn't measured by the number of contracts we win, it's measured by the relationships we build and maintain over time."

That philosophy has resulted in relationships that extend well beyond individual projects.

Commercial property manager Ezequiel Remi has worked with Lux Group Corp. for more than four years, describing the company as:

"Reliable, detail-oriented, and responsive even in Calgary's toughest winters."

He also noted:

"Communication with Lux is seamless, and their professionalism has been outstanding."

Those comments reflect the breadth of the company's work. A commercial client may initially hire Lux Group Corp. to install or repair a parking lot, then return for ongoing pavement maintenance, concrete repairs, seasonal landscaping, irrigation, or winter snow and ice management. Rather than specializing in a single aspect of exterior property care, the company has developed the experience and equipment to support clients throughout every season.

Whether repairing deteriorating asphalt before small cracks become major structural issues, installing concrete sidewalks and parking pads, constructing retaining walls and outdoor living spaces, or maintaining commercial landscapes, Tommy says these principles have remained unchanged:

"One thing that's never changed is how we choose our work. We don't take every job just because it's there. If I'm not 100% confident that we have the right people, the right equipment, and the right experience to do the job properly, we'll respectfully say no. I'd rather lose a project than accept one knowing we can't deliver the level of quality our clients deserve. Your reputation takes years to build and only one mistake to lose. Protecting our reputation has always been more important than chasing revenue."

"Another thing that's very important to me is respecting the environment. We work in people's communities every day, and I believe we have a responsibility to leave every property cleaner, safer, and better than we found it whenever possible. Being respectful to our clients, our employees, and to nature is simply part of who we are."

That approach is particularly evident in the company's paving division.

Lux Group Corp. provides commercial and residential asphalt paving, parking lot rehabilitation, sealcoating, crack sealing, line striping, and preventative maintenance programs designed to extend pavement life while helping property owners avoid more costly repairs in the future.

Following an asphalt repair project in downtown Edmonton, Amir Kanan wrote:

"The crew was professional, arrived on time, and did a fantastic job repairing cracks and paving the areas that needed attention."

He also noted:

"The quality of the work was excellent, and they ensured everything was smooth, durable, and clean before leaving."

For Tommy, that attention to detail begins long before construction starts.

"Every successful project starts long before the equipment arrives on site. We invest time in planning, understanding our client's objectives, evaluating the property, and preparing for every scenario we can anticipate."

"Of course, every project brings unexpected challenges. That's where experience makes the difference. Our team knows how to adapt, communicate, and find solutions without losing sight of safety, quality, or our client's expectations. At the end of the day, our reputation is attached to every project we complete, and that's something we never forget."

The same philosophy extends into the company's landscape construction division.

Lux Group Corp. designs and builds landscapes ranging from residential gardens to commercial developments, combining hardscape features such as retaining walls, patios, walkways, concrete work, drainage, and irrigation with carefully planned softscape elements including lawns, trees, shrubs, planting beds, and outdoor lighting. Every project begins with an assessment of how the property will be used, allowing the team to recommend practical solutions rather than simply the largest project.

That consultative approach left an impression on homeowner William Harrington, who wrote:

"They paid attention to details about our yard that we hadn't noticed and helped us create a cohesive space."

He also appreciated that:

"He didn't try to oversell."

Another client, Matthew Puckett, entrusted the company with a complete backyard transformation that included retaining walls, irrigation, tree planting, and a water feature.

Reflecting on the finished project, he wrote:

"Everything from the quote, design, construction to the finished product was bang on."

He concluded:

"My expectations were far exceeded."

While much of the company's work takes place during Alberta's warmer months, winter presents a different set of responsibilities.

Lux Group Corp. provides commercial snow and ice management programs that include parking lot clearing, walkway maintenance, de-icing, anti-icing, weather monitoring, and site safety inspections. With crews available throughout the winter season, the company helps commercial clients maintain safe, accessible properties while responding quickly to changing weather conditions.

Tommy believes that level of reliability comes down to the people representing the company.

"For me, it always starts with character. Skills can be taught, but integrity, respect, and a strong work ethic come from the individual. Those are the qualities that truly define someone on our team."

That commitment to professionalism is reinforced through the company's Certificate of Recognition (COR), reflecting an established occupational health and safety management system. COR certification also enables Lux Group Corp. to pursue municipal and commercial projects where recognized safety accreditation forms part of the bidding requirements.

Tommy says many of the experiences throughout his career continue to shape the company today.

"I've been fortunate to work alongside my General Manager, Jay Guzman, for more than 26 years. We built a successful company together in Québec before selling it, and in 2014 we made the decision to move to Alberta and start over from scratch. That wasn't easy, but it taught us resilience, discipline, and the importance of building the right team around us. That journey is what eventually led to the creation of Lux Group Corp."

He also acknowledges those who helped shape the company during its early years.

"In the early years of Lux Group Corp., I also had the opportunity to work with Matt Kelly as my business partner. Matt played an important role in helping grow the company and bringing it to the next level during those formative years. Today, I proudly own Lux Group Corp. 100%, and I remain grateful for the contribution he made to building the foundation we have today."

Tommy believes every member of the team carries the company's reputation with them each day they arrive on site.

"All of those experiences shaped how I build a team. I look for people who take pride in their work, who respect our clients and each other, who understand the importance of safety, and who genuinely want to be part of something bigger than themselves. At the end of the day, every person in the field represents Lux Group Corp., and that responsibility means everything to me."

Looking back, Tommy says the most rewarding part of the journey has been building the company from the ground up.

"I started Lux Group Corp. from scratch. Nobody handed me anything. I put everything I had into this company and took a lot of risks because I truly believed in what we were building. There were good days and there were difficult days, but I never stopped believing that if we worked hard, treated people right, and stood behind our work, we'd build something special."

He credits much of the company's continued success to the people who have shared that vision.

"No company is built by one person alone. I'm grateful for the people who have believed in this vision over the years, our employees, our loyal clients, my General Manager Jay Guzman, my former business partner Matt Kelly, and everyone who has helped shape Lux Group Corp. into what it is today."

"When people ask me what I'm most proud of, it's honestly not the equipment or the projects; it's the people. It's the relationships we've built, the trust our clients have in us, and the team that's been with me through this journey."

For Tommy, however, the company has always represented something larger than the projects themselves.

"My business isn't just my livelihood, it's my family. Every decision I make today is with tomorrow in mind, because my goal has never been to build a company for myself; it's to build a legacy that my children can one day be proud to continue."

That perspective naturally shapes the company's long-term vision.

"Our goal isn't simply to become bigger, it's to become better every year. We will continue investing in our people, our equipment, and innovative technology so we can provide the highest level of service while operating safely, efficiently, and responsibly."

Tommy says that vision extends beyond today's projects.

"Most importantly, we're building something that will last. My dream has always been to create a company that my children can one day be proud to lead if they choose to. I don't just want to build a successful business, I want to build a legacy based on integrity, hard work, and respect for people and the environment."

Throughout every project, Tommy believes trust remains the company's greatest responsibility.

"Trust isn't built through advertising, it's built through actions. We believe in doing what we say we're going to do, standing behind our work, and treating every client with honesty and respect."

"We understand that when someone hires Lux Group Corp., they're placing their confidence in us. We never take that responsibility for granted. Every project, regardless of its size, is another opportunity to prove that their trust was well placed."

Five consecutive years of Canadian Business Review Board recognition reflect the consistency that has become synonymous with Lux Group Corp. More importantly, however, the company's reputation has been built through something far more enduring: the confidence of clients who continue to return, project after project, season after season.

As Lux Group Corp. continues to serve communities across Alberta, Tommy remains focused on the same principles that guided the company from the beginning: delivering quality workmanship, building lasting relationships, and earning the trust that turns first-time clients into long-term partners.
