The Canadian government has authorized only safe and effective vaccines as they are rigorously tested and reviewed by Health Canada. They don’t give you COVID-19 as they don’t contain the virus that contains it. Also, these vaccines can’t change your DNA.
What are the COVID Vaccine Side Effects?
The side effects of a vaccine happen because
your body responds to the new entity and wants to build protection against the
disease. Some side effects might last for a few hours, while some might last
for a few days.
The most common COVID vaccine side effects are
fatigue, fever, headaches, and pain at the injection site.
What are the COVID-19 Vaccine Ingredients?
In all vaccines, the active components are
known as antigens. They are usually parts of germs that teach your body’s
immune system to recognize and attack the real germs. Vaccines also have many
other ingredients, and some of them might trigger an allergic reaction in
people.
Do COVID-19 Vaccines Trigger Allergic
Reactions?
In rare cases, a vaccine might trigger allergic
reactions that can even be severe. So, you need to contact your health care
provider before you decide which of the vaccines is right for you. You might
also need their assistance if you have any side effects after getting the
COVID-19 jab or have any new persistent or worsening symptoms.
If you think you have a severe or mild allergic
reaction, you might need to call emergency services quickly. In Canada, the
Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada, the manufacturers, and the provincial
and territorial health authorities are monitoring rare reactions and side
effect reports. They are also assessing new safety concerns and monitoring the
use of all COVID-19 vaccines closely.
So, if you have any reaction from a COVID-19
vaccine in Canada or you are witnessing it in another person, you can report it
to your health care provider so that the right data can reach the authorities.
The healthcare providers report the reactions to the local public health
authority, who then reports the same to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The Responsibilities of Drug Manufacturers
The government is also urging the manufacturers
of drugs who are involved in COVID-19 vaccination efforts to monitor all
possible safety issues and take swift actions. They also need to develop and
regularly update a product monograph that will offer vital information for safe
and effective use of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Taking the step of developing and updating the
monograph ensures that health care providers and the general public know all
the pertinent safety information.
A Useful Initiative by Health Canada
To keep the public aware, Health Canada is also
maintaining and updating a post-authorization activity table on a regular basis
for all COVID-19 treatments and vaccines. The table smartly summarizes all
activities which happened after approval. It includes product monograph changes
for COVID-19 vaccines like Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine,
COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccine, Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine, AstraZeneca
Vaxzevria COVID-19 vaccine, and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19
vaccine.
