Q & A With Dr. Kristy Bailey, Medical Director & Founder of FCP Dermatology

What services does FCP Dermatology offer?

FCP Dermatology offers a wide range of anti-aging services from the inside out.  Some of these services include Botox to soften and prevent the appearance of fine lines and dermal fillers to restore volume loss that occurs over time. All injections are performed by our Double-Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Bailey. The goal of our injectable procedures is to provide a natural refreshed appearance - not an overdone appearance. FCP Dermatology also specializes in hair restoration with platelet-rich-plasma, sharpening of the jawline, neck tightening, eye bag removal, hand rejuvenation, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. With the most advanced laser technology in the world, we can also effectively remove sun spots, tattoos, redness, and rosacea.

We asked Dr. Bailey's associate the following: 'How did Dr. Kristy Bailey come up with the idea to start FCP Dermatology, and what purpose did she intend to serve with the concept?'

FCP Dermatology is owned and operated by our Double-Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Kristy Bailey. The clinic is located in the iconic and prestigious First Canadian Place Building in Canada’s financial district. Dr. Bailey’s vision was to have a world class facility in the heart of downtown Toronto where people can leave looking rested and refreshed. The goal of the clinic is to provide patients with discrete natural results in a 5-star luxury setting. As Dr. Bailey’s associate, I can tell you that her idea of providing a happy work environment has definitely come to fruition and the patients can feel the joy we all have coming to work everyday. She always reminds us that people remember the way you made them feel. Our mission at the clinic is to soften your lines so you can sharpen your edge in this competitive fast paced world we all live in.

We asked Dr. Bailey these follow-up questions:

Which strategies have you found the most effective in growing your audience/ bringing awareness of your service to a larger consumer group?

Our patients are walking advertisements of what we can do at FCP Dermatology. We intentionally provide natural results. Patients leave our clinic looking like they went on a nice relaxing vacation. When Botox and dermal fillers are done correctly, no one should know they’ve had anything done, just that they look like a more rested and refreshed version of themselves.

Are there any challenges that made it difficult to continue operation and that you managed to overcome? What was your approach to get past these?

During the pandemic, the financial district became a ghost town. Numbers are still drastically low, in terms of foot traffic in the financial district. Almost all the businesses around the clinic went bankrupt during this time and continue to close. We are fortunate to have long-term, committed patients at FCP Dermatology who continue to come to the clinic, even if they are continuing to work from home. I think it’s a real testament to the great work we do at FCP Dermatology and the way we make people feel. Although the clinic was meant for people to pop by during their busy day in the financial district, it has become a destination. I am the only one at the clinic who does injections. I believe that only a Board-Certified Dermatologist should be injecting people’s faces, and I don’t trust anyone else to do it. I have 16 years of post-secondary education (including an M.D.) with sub-specialization in the skin and its anatomy. It always shocks me that people don’t realize that the world of cosmetic injectables is not regulated. Anyone can take a weekend course and start injecting people’s faces. I see a lot of terrible side effects from filler and botox being done incorrectly, from blown up cheeks to necrosis (loss of part of the face). Patients come to me to help them fix the mistakes done by unqualified injectors and it’s really upsetting. Correcting the mistakes is not simple, and I really try to educate people to really delve into the background of their injector. I would suggest at bare minimum the injector should hold a medical degree (MD), and ideally should have many years of experience in cosmetic Dermatology and injectables. I am able to give people a natural rested and more youthful appearance without anyone knowing they had injections because of my education, experience, and expertise. I believe the combination of superior results with a luxury setting and a friendly welcoming environment is what has allowed us to flourish during difficult times.

How do you balance work, passions/hobbies, and relationships?

In addition to the clinic I am married and I have 2 beautiful and energetic children who are 1 and 4 years old. It’s definitely busy, but I love it! You have to make time for your husband and kids. I’m a believer that the most important decision you will ever make is choosing your life partner. They can make or break your personal and professional life. I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband who has helped me tremendously with all aspects of the clinic, and continues to help me everyday. Almost every night I go home and talk about the clinic. FCP Dermatology is like a third child to me; it requires a lot of love and attention on a daily basis. If you love what you do, it’s not work. That’s the mentality I have in the clinic. I try to make the environment as enjoyable as possible while maintaining a professional place of business.

What are your future plans to build on your personal/ company achievements and fulfill your vision for success/ what developments can your audience or clientele look forward to expecting next?

I love to travel the world and bring the latest technology and services into the clinic. In November of this year I advanced my skills in blepharoplasty and have added this minimally invasive surgical procedure to our service menu. In March I purchased the top laser in the world for tattoo and sun spot removal. In May I worked with the pioneer of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and honed my skills on optimizing hormones to make the skin look more youthful and make the body look better by decreasing fat and increasing muscle. Bio-identical hormones have the added bonus of making you feel younger and more energetic while also preventing diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression.

My patients can always expect the latest advances in medicine at FCP Dermatology.
